• An internship is a form of applied study in Computer Engineering related fields.  
• The total internship period is 40 working days.  
• The internship is recommended to be divided into two as 20+20 and to be completed in different companies or departments at the end of the 4th and 6th semesters.
• At the end of the 4th semester, only 20 working days of the internship can be completed. If it covers 40 working days, the internship board will only accept 20 working days.
• The student is expected to complete a full internship if he/she wants to complete the entire internship (40 working days) at once in the same company and same department after the 6th semester.
• The internship reports must be submitted within the first 2 weeks of the semester at the latest. Otherwise, reports will not be evaluated.
• The internship report must be written in Turkish by the students whose mother language is Turkish.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.    Can I do my internship during the semester? 
You cannot do your compulsory internship until the end of the final exams specified in the academic calendar during the period in which you are enrolled in any course other than the internship course.

2.    Can I do my internship during the break between fall and spring semesters?
Internships can be made between the end date of the fall semester finals announced in the academic calendar and the first day of the spring semester.

3.    I'm going to register for a class in summer school. Can I do my internship between spring semester and summer school?
Students who will take courses in summer school can do their internships between the end date of the spring semester finals announced in the academic calendar and the first day of summer school.

4.    Can I do my internship when I am taking classes in summer school? 
If you are enrolled in any course other than the internship course in summer school, you cannot do your compulsory internship until the end of the summer school final exams specified in the academic calendar. This applies even if the course you are enrolled in is only one day a week.

5.    When should I register for the internship courses?

You should take the relevant internship course in the first period after completing your internship. For example, a student who does his/her internship in August must register for the internship course in the following fall semester, a student who does his/her internship in between fall and spring semesters must register for the internship course in the following spring semester; a student who does his/her internship between spring semester and summer school or in July should choose the internship course in the summer school or following fall semester. 

6.    Can I do my production internship during the summer holidays after 2nd grade? 
In order to do the IE7803 production internship, it is obligatory to successfully complete the IE6404 - Production Planning and Control course. Since this course is in the sixth semester (i.e. the third grade) in our department’s program, production internships cannot be done during the summer holidays after the second grade.

7.    When can I do my internships at the earliest? 
You can start doing your internships after your fourth term at the earliest.

8.    I have completed my courses. I only have internship course left. Can I do an internship during the semester? 
Yes. In order to be able to choose the course at the beginning of the semester you plan to do internship, you must request a petition from your academic advisor indicating that only your internship course is left for graduation and submit the petition to the Student Affairs Office. After your credit approval, you must submit the petition to the Financial Affairs Department. After completing your internship, you need to contact the internship commission of our department to upload the necessary documents to the system within 2 weeks. If the results of the checks are found appropriate, necessary procedures are carried out for your graduation.

9.    Are Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays counted as an internship working day? 
If you have a petition or document from the company that you are working on a Saturday, Saturdays can be counted as internship days. Sunday and public holidays are not counted as internship days, as insurance cannot be provided by the university.

10.    What is the F0 document and where will I upload it? 
It is a compulsory internship form. If a document is requested by the company you will do internship that your internship is within the scope of compulsory internship, you must have the document signed by your academic advisor, company official and internship coordinator, respectively. It does not need to be uploaded to the system or submitted before or after the internship. 

11.    What is F1 document and where will I upload it? 
It is the workplace acceptance letter. When applying for an online internship, it must be uploaded to the system. 

12.    Is it possible for me to do an internship during the pandemic period?
 Yes. If you have determined the internship dates that are suitable for the terms of the internship period, you can.

13.    What are the stages that need to be followed in the internship application during the pandemic? 
After determining the company and date range for your internship, addressing the Human Resources Department, “During the pandemic, I want to do an internship during …….. / ……… dates at ……………. company with my own request”, and send this petition via e-mail to your academic advisor and then to the Human Resources Department. Afterwards, you need to apply for an online internship and inform your academic advisor. After your internship is approved and completed, you must upload the announced documents to the system until the specified delivery date. 

14.    Is it possible to do a project internship? 
No, project internships are not currently on the agenda. When there is a development about the project internship, it will be announced on CATS.

15.    In what period can I do compulsory internship?
Internship can be done between the end of the final week in the academic calendar and the course start date of the next semester.

16.    I work in a company, I have insurance, but does the university still need to make the insurance?
Yes, IKU must do the record for SSI (Social Security Institution) for your internship to be accepted.

17.    I found the internship place. How many days before the beginning of the internship should I upload my documents to IKU-INTERNSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?
There must be at least 10 days between your internship application and your internship start date.

18.    How can I login to IKU-INTERNSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?

19.    I completed my internship. When should I upload the required documents to the CATS system at the latest?
In the first period to be opened, you must upload your documents under the homework opened in the CATS system within 2 weeks. For example, if you did an internship in the summer, you should choose the course in the fall semester and upload your report to CATS. If you have done an internship in the semester break (between fall and spring semester), you must choose the course in the spring semester and upload your report to CATS.

20.    I completed my internship. What documents should I prepare?
You need to upload the following 4 documents as a single pdf file.

21.    Is it obligatory to have a wet signature on my documents during the pandemic period?
No. Because of the pandemic, you do not need to get a signature or stamp on every page. You need to have the internship approval form signed by the manager or authorized person in the company you are affiliated with. You must also scan this document and add it to the last page of the internship report.

22.    I completed my internship during the pandemic period. Do I have to post my documents?
No. When the lecture starts, it is enough to upload to the folders on the CATS page opened for internships.

23.    I completed my internship, prepared all my documents. Where will I upload the required documents?
You need to upload all the required documents as a single PDF / Word file to the folders on the CATS page which is opened for internships when the course period begins.

24.    I have completed my courses. I have also completed my internship (s). When can I learn my grade(s) after submitting my documents?
Your grade entries are finished at the end of the course period just after the end of your internship.

25.    Do I have to complete and submit both F1 [Türkçe] and F1 [English] documents?
No, it is enough to complete and submit just one.

26.    Can I do both internships at the same place?
Yes, you can.

27.    In which departments can I do my production and management internship? 
The student must do his/her IE5802 Internship I Accounting/Finance, Logistics/Warehouse, IT, Human Resources, Purchasing, Sales/Marketing, Project Management Office, Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management, R&D departments in any sector. However, for IE7803 Internship II must be done in a manufacturing company that student is able to see the flow of goods from raw material to the product. Departments like Production Planning, Production and Quality Control are appropriate for IE7803.
